1Identity of the Data Controller

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) acts as the Data Controller, located at the National Stadium Complex, Surulere, Lagos.

2Categories of Data Collected & Purpose

Bio-Data & Contact Information: Full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, address, telephone, and email — for identity verification, licensing, registries, and communications.

Biometric & Medical Data (Sensitive): Blood type, medical history, fit-to-fight certifications, weight metrics, and photographs — for safety compliance, combat eligibility, and anti-doping verification.

Performance & Professional Records: Fight records, KO history, coaching/referee certifications, and disciplinary history — for official rankings, fight sanctions, and regulatory management.

Next of Kin / Emergency Contact: Name, relationship, and contact number of a designated person — strictly for medical emergencies during events.

3Legal Basis for Processing

Pursuant to Section 25 of the NDPA 2023, the NBF relies on the following legal bases:

  1. Consent — Your explicit, freely given, specific, and informed authorization.
  2. Contractual Obligation — Necessary to execute licenses, event registrations, or employment contracts.
  3. Legal & Regulatory Duty — Compliance with sports mandates, Ministry of Sports directives, and WADA anti-doping regulations.
  4. Vital Interests — To protect your life or health during competitive bouts.

4Data Recipients & Third-Party Disclosures

Your data is kept confidential but may be shared with verified third parties under secure data-sharing agreements:

  • Federal Ministry of Sports Development and the National Anti-Doping Committee.
  • International Boxing Associations (IBA) or African Boxing Union (ABU) for international tournament licensing.
  • Appointed medical teams, emergency personnel, and certified event insurers.

The NBF guarantees your data will never be sold, leased, or traded for commercial marketing purposes.

5Data Retention Period

The NBF stores personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes in Section 2, or as required by national sports registries, statutory limitation periods, and international boxing archive standards. Medical records are securely archived post-retirement in line with health safety guidelines.

6Your Rights as a Data Subject

Under the NDPA 2023, you retain ownership of your data and possess the following rights:

Right to Access

Request a copy of your personal data held by the NBF.

Right to Rectification

Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete records.

Right to Erasure

Request deletion where no overriding legal obligation exists.

Right to Object & Restrict

Object to or temporarily suspend specific processing activities.

Right to Data Portability

Request your data be transferred to another federation in a structured format.

Right to Withdraw Consent

Withdraw consent at any time without penalty (withdrawal is not retroactive).

7Explicit Consent Statements

The following consents are required during registration:

I explicitly consent to the Nigeria Boxing Federation collecting, processing, and storing my personal bio-data, contact details, and professional boxing history for registration, licensing, and communication purposes.

I explicitly consent to the processing of my Sensitive Personal Data, including medical reports, blood types, physical metrics, and drug testing results, strictly for ring safety, anti-doping control, and regulatory compliance.

I authorize the NBF to share my necessary data with accredited international sports governing bodies, local medical emergency teams, and official regulatory ministries exclusively for tournament selection and mandatory event compliance.

Parental / Legal Guardian Consent (Boxers Under 18)

Pursuant to Section 31 of the NDPA 2023, processing a minor's data requires parental evaluation and consent. A parent or legal guardian must co-sign the registration for applicants under 18 years of age.
